Immigration is like a piece of puzzle. It represents apart of the United States and the history behind it. It’s an important piece to our history and without it, we wouldn’t be as diverse as we are today.  A lot of people have certain opinions towards this project. There are people who think that immigration is a bad thing and others think that immigration is a good thing. It doesn’t necessarily mean that immigration only comes from one country. It comes from everywhere in the world. The reasons for migrating vary. Some people choose to relocate to explore new economic opportunities, some to escape persecution or oppression, others to be closer to family, and others simply to seek a change of scenery. Some globalization critics counteract this argument by pointing out that the current system leads to divided communities because immigrants will no longer have the desire to assimilate into the culture of the second country. Globalization and immigration have gone hand-in-hand: each has greatly benefited from the other. Laborers still move around to look for a better life, and sex trafficking still exists; globalization has just made it easier and faster for these migrant workers to move around.

I chose to do my benchmark based on this topic because it personally connects with my life and me. It really affects me when people think that all immigrants are illegal. That’s not necessarily true. Immigration happens for certain reasons. Of course there are people who hop the border and do things illegal, but who are you or I to judge? They have their reasons and you have yours. I, on the other hand, am not illegal. I have my social, green card, and a passport. Well, an expired one. But the point is, just because I’m not white, it doesn’t mean I’m legally here. So this project will really help me prove what this issue is really about and how immigration can help United States in so many ways. “So if we're truly committed to strengthening our middle class and providing more ladders of opportunity to those who are willing to work hard to make it into the middle class, we've got to fix the system. We have to make sure that every business and every worker in America is playing by the same set of rules. We have to bring this shadow economy into the light so that everybody is held accountable — businesses for who they hire, and immigrants for getting on the right side of the law. That’s common sense. And that’s why we need comprehensive immigration reform.” Barack Obama.
